The Columbia Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities provides a forum for scholarship that examines human society, culture, and thought. We publish empirical and theoretical work in sociology, anthropology, history, philosophy, political science, cultural and literary studies, linguistics, and related fields, welcoming both disciplinary depth and interdisciplinary dialogue.

The journal embraces methodological pluralism. Quantitative analyses of social structure sit alongside ethnographic, archival, and interpretive studies; close textual readings appear beside comparative and historical argument. We are interested in research that interrogates power, identity, institutions, and meaning, and that brings rigorous evidence or careful conceptual reasoning to questions of enduring social importance.

Each submission is judged on the originality of its contribution, the soundness of its evidence or argument, and its engagement with relevant scholarly conversations. By publishing open access, we aim to widen participation in the humanities and social sciences and to make critical, reflective knowledge available to researchers, educators, and engaged readers worldwide.

Contributions may include original empirical studies, theoretical and conceptual essays, historical and archival research, and substantive review articles. We value clear argument, careful evidence, and engagement with existing scholarship over adherence to any single school or method.
