The Columbia Journal of Education and Social Sciences publishes research that situates education within its broader social, cultural, and policy context. Our scope brings together education research and the social sciences, from educational psychology and the sociology of education to the public policies that shape opportunity and outcomes.

We welcome empirical and theoretical studies on teaching and learning, educational equity and access, school and community institutions, and the social processes that influence development across the lifespan. Both quantitative analyses and qualitative, interpretive, and mixed-methods research are within scope, and we particularly value interdisciplinary work bridging education and the social sciences.

Each manuscript is assessed for methodological soundness, theoretical contribution, and relevance to researchers, educators, and policymakers. Through open access the journal aims to deepen understanding of how social conditions shape learning and how education in turn shapes society, supporting evidence-informed efforts to build more equitable and effective educational and social systems.

We publish original empirical studies, theoretical contributions, and integrative reviews spanning education and the social sciences. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches are welcome, as is interdisciplinary work that links learning to its social context.
