Food processing industries are pivotal to the global economy as they fulfill essential needs by converting raw food materials into consumable products. However, the sector faces significant challenges, particularly in relation to worker safety, environmental hazards, and management practices. Despite its importance, the safety of workers in food processing facilities is often compromised due to exposure to various occupational risks. This study aims to examine the key determinants influencing safety practices among workers in food processing industries in Rivers State, Nigeria. The research explores factors such as environmental hazards, management policies, and worker awareness that directly impact safety practices in these industries. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were gathered through surveys and interviews with employees and management across several food processing firms in the region. The findings reveal that while safety practices are recognized, their implementation is inconsistent and often undermined by inadequate training, insufficient safety equipment, and weak enforcement of safety regulations. The study highlights the urgent need for improved safety standards and more effective management strategies to enhance the well-being of workers and mitigate potential hazards in food processing environments. Recommendations include increasing safety training, providing better protective gear, and ensuring stricter adherence to safety policies. The results underscore the importance of a coordinated effort between employers, regulatory bodies, and workers to foster a safer working environment in the food processing industry.
