Premature ejaculation (PE) is one of the most common male sexual dysfunctions and is often characterized by ejaculation that occurs sooner than desired during sexual intercourse, leading to distress or interpersonal difficulty. It is generally diagnosed when ejaculation consistently occurs within one minute of penetration, when an individual is unable to delay ejaculation on most occasions, and when the condition causes significant emotional distress or avoidance of sexual intimacy. Although occasional early ejaculation is not considered clinically significant, persistent cases can negatively affect quality of life and relationship satisfaction.
In recent years, the widespread availability of internet-based health information has increased self-diagnosis and self-management of medical conditions, including sexual health disorders such as PE. While this accessibility may enhance awareness, it may also contribute to misconceptions, misinformation, and delayed medical consultation. Premature ejaculation remains underreported and undertreated, largely due to embarrassment, stigma, and lack of accurate knowledge among affected individuals.
Both psychological factors, such as anxiety, stress, and relationship issues, and biological factors, including neurobiological sensitivity and hormonal influences, are associated with the development of PE. Despite its prevalence—affecting up to one in three men at some point in their lives—many individuals do not seek professional help. However, effective management options exist, including pharmacological treatments, behavioral techniques, psychotherapy, and combined therapeutic approaches, all of which have demonstrated varying degrees of success in improving ejaculatory control and sexual satisfaction.
This study highlights the importance of improving men’s awareness and understanding of premature ejaculation, particularly in the context of increasing reliance on online health information. Addressing knowledge gaps and misconceptions is essential to encourage timely medical consultation, reduce stigma, and improve treatment outcomes for affected individuals and their partners
