Abstract

<p>The global refugee crisis has escalated to historic proportions, with nearly 80 million forcibly displaced individuals recorded worldwide by the end of 2019. Among them, over 26 million are refugees seeking safety, stability, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives. As a global leader in refugee resettlement, the United States has played a pivotal role in offering sanctuary through its long-standing resettlement program—the largest of its kind internationally. Despite recent political shifts and policy restrictions during the Trump administration, the Biden administration's renewed commitment to more inclusive immigration policies signals a substantial increase in refugee admissions in the coming years.</p>
<p>This study explores the urgent need to understand and address the multifaceted challenges refugees face during the resettlement and integration process in the United States. These challenges include cultural and language barriers, access to employment, housing, healthcare, and education, as well as psychological trauma and social exclusion. Successful integration is not only essential for refugee well-being but also for promoting cohesive, inclusive communities in host countries.</p>
<p>By reviewing current policy developments and examining the lived experiences of refugee populations, this paper underscores the significance of proactive, well-informed approaches to integration. It also highlights the importance of cross-sector collaboration among government agencies, non-profits, and local communities to provide sustainable support systems. As the U.S. prepares to welcome a growing number of displaced individuals, addressing these integration obstacles is critical to upholding its humanitarian commitments and ensuring the long-term success of resettlement efforts</p>
