Abstract

Infertility is a growing global health issue that affects an estimated 10%–15% of heterosexual couples of childbearing age. The prevalence of infertility has steadily increased in recent years, leading to significant emotional, psychological, and social challenges for affected individuals and couples. This paper examines the various facets of infertility, focusing on the emotional burden it places on individuals, the societal pressures faced by couples, and the evolving expectations of family structures.

The societal context of infertility has changed over time, with shifting norms around marriage, family, and reproductive health, often exacerbating the stigma associated with infertility. As the awareness of fertility challenges rises, access to fertility treatments has also become more widespread, offering hope to many, but raising questions about the ethical and social implications of assisted reproductive technologies. This paper further explores these developments and their impact on couples’ lives, relationships, and societal roles.
